Wong Kei's in an institution in London's Chinatown. Going back at least 25 years from when I'd first heard of it, I really went out of curiosity for the service. A lady mentioned how the staff were quite brisk and would throw the food at you. I just had to see this and when I visited, discovered two things: 1) Wong Kei's staff reminded me of San Francisco's Chinatown and just were very fast and efficient; and 2) the food is absolutely amazing! That was it and I have continue to go back since to get my "fix." Whether walking over from my office on Conduit Street, cycling into London from Surrey, or now more sporadically coming in from
Winchester, Wong Kei's settles a craving. The restaurant is always packed, which says a lot in itself, and the team now know me, so are on a friendly basis. The Singapore fried noodles and wonton noodle soup are my favourites, though in the words of another customer long ago, "Order anything, it'll be delicious no matter what it is." When in London's West End near Piccadilly, SoHo or Leicester Square and craving Chinese food, Wong Kei's is definitely worth a stop.
Man, look at all these people rating this place on it's service. Clearly, you ain't never been to a real Chinese restaurant lol. Let's get one thing straight, you don't go to a Chinese restaurant like this for service, or any of them for that matter. You don't go a nice atmosphere where you'll spend a lot of time, you don't go because it's nice. You go for the damn FOOD.
So everyone giving this place less than 3 stars, they don't care! lol
Anywho, onto the food, rant over.
Of course you know my main dish and one of my favorite Canto dishes is Chow Fun... I had to get that as well as the won ton soup, because it's good for clearing the system, because alcohol.
It was actually VERY VERY VERY good and tasted the same as it does in the states! same with the won ton soup. Although I'd have to say the won ton soup broth wasn't as clear, I'm guessing they didn't separate it from the water.
Def a place if you want cantonese chinese food and you're from the states, it'll remind you of home. 5 star. fa sho.
