Reviews:

Great authentic Shanghai food. Surprised the rating is so low. Teens liked it too. Pan fried buns have so much juice.

I really, really like this place! I have been looking for a good xiao long bao restaurant to replace China First Gourmet in Milpitas for almost a decade now, and no restaurant has impressed me so far. Even

Very authentic Shanghai cuisine. Mu kids like fried pork bun (生煎包), Scallion Paste Noodle (葱油拌面),bok choy rice (上海菜饭),while we enjoy Stir-Fried Shrimps (油爆虾),Stir-fried shredded eel (响油鳝丝),Kung Pao Chicken (宫保鸡丁),and shredded pork with dried bean curd (香干肉丝).

Excellent food and service. My goto place for a comfort Chinese food. I love their tea smoke duck and pot sticker. Their peking noodles soup (dalu mien) was also excellent!

We had a stupendous lunch today at Shanghai Family Restaurant. Having been to Shanghai, the city in China, many times, this is truly exquisite and authentic Shanghaiese cuisine. We had the xiao long bao, little dragon buns, made at the restaurant fresh. They were tasty, juicy and full of flavor. We highly recommend the little eels with scallions. They are a famous Shanghaiese dish as well. The eels are flown fresh in by air. We topped it off with cumin lamb, succulent, spiced just right.

This is one of the very few places I consistently come back to for food. If you want classic no frills Shanghai fare this is the restaurant to go to. The service is quite fast especially if you go during off peak hrs.

Some highlights:
-Xlb: filled to the brim with soup
-Shanghai Pan Fried Dumplings: similar to XLB but quite fluffy and packed with meat
-steamed fish with scallions and ginger: it absolutely melts in your mouth like butter
-Shanghai Mustard Greens and House marinated pork: salty, savory, and exceptional

Really delicious food and service very nice, I like there wonton soup, must try it. The bun taste same as I ate in Shanghai.

my parents have been coming to this restaurant since before i was born, and then, they eventually took me here. so it's safe to say this place holds a special place in my heart. the food here is one of the rare places in the bay that is truly authentic to shanghainese home cooking cuisine, something that's extremely special and rare to find outside of shanghai. it's a place that bring nostalgia and culture the moment you take a bite into the food - a place that transports you back to the city with centuries long history. the place has been owned by the same cute lady for all these years - and is extremely cozy and homey, perfect for those looking for a truly authentic shanghai experience.

service may not be your typical service that occurs at a high end restaurant, but i don't think that's the mark of a good restaurant nor do i think that is essential to restaurants like these: hole in the walls serving you genuine local shanghainese cuisine.

my recommendations would be the shen jian bao (pan fried dumplings), soup dumplings, the duck, and their liang mian huang (crispy pan fried noodles).

Most authentic Shanghainese cuisine in the Bay Area!! We have just moved back to Bay Area after living in Taipei and Shanghai for the past ten years, Shanghai Resturant is the place we go to when we are home sick for the traditional Shanghai flavor. We have ordered most of the dishes on the menu and they have not disappointed us in any ways. Recently I even get to taste the gluten ball stuffed with fresh ground pork! It almost brought tears in my eyes remembering the great time and food we had while living in Asia!

This review is only for their sheng jian bao since that is the only thing i have ordered. I was craving the sheng jian bao from the shanghai restaurant (i believe its called sheng jian guan) on wolfe street in sunnyvale and so sad to hear they closed for good :( anyways i was SUPER craving these buns. I decided to order from here and i was quite worried they would be the frozen non authentic tasting type that i have been served many times at other chinese restaurants. I was so happy to see that these were honestly quite comparable to my beloved ones from the old restaurant. Nice amount if soup inside, crunchy thick bottom, served piping hot! It's not 100% as good the ones from the OG restaurant BUT its pretty darn close.

The Shanghai food at this restaurant is awesome! It's a gem, but in some ways a diamond in the rough. That is a good thing! Because not everyone goes here!

The owners are very Shanghai-nese! ENJOY IT. It's not Fusion. It's authentic. If you want to make them happy tell the lady "shay-yan-nong". Which is my english-ized way of telling you how to say thank you in Shanghai-nese.

Favorite vegetarian dishes here (englishized for non chinese):

1) shwei sai feng pi - bean sheet like noodles with preserved mustard leaves. OMG!!! delicious!
2) veggie dumplings! OMG good
3) Si gua with salty egg yolk... OMG good
4) normal stuff: Shanghai style pan fried noodles.
5) sauted green beans
6) Da Dou Mao: Pea leaves sauted with garlic. OMG good ...

Try it...

They do make orders to go. Call them and pay by card when you get there. Thanks for helping keep business like this one alive. We skipped going in January because of Covid-19. Instead I was going to Italian, German, and Spanish! I'm lucky I didn't get the virus! So glad we finally went back.

Great Shanghainese food! As someone who lived in Shanghai, the food comes pretty close to home. It was great to see that they accept credit cards and food service was quick. The xiao long bao was my favorite!

YMMV (your mileage may vary) I personally have had very good experiences with the owner and manager so I'm biased.

With that being said.

I love their XLB - Xiao Long Bao.

I know DTF in Taiwan is supposed to be the BEST. (well for a franchise)

But in the states Shanghai is #1 for me.

The. Best. XLB. I've had since the last great one in Cupertino shut-down.

I'd go here and ONLY eat XLB. Just XLB.. and maybe some rice to wash it down with.

If you haven't had XLB here. I'd highly recommend.

We ordered a lot of food for our business re-grand opening! Everyone is so happy coz we finally could eat the traditional shanghai food! Our party starts at 11 but their restaurant open at 11, the owner got up early to prepare and able to deliver food on time! Food was so yummy! All Chinese knows this restaurant coz they cook the most authentic shanghai food!

Not sure why this place has 3 stars, it has a huge menu of Shanghainese dishes, the customer service is great and the food quality is great. For lunch for two people, we ordered Shanghainese dumplings (soupy), noodles in hot oil with minced beef, and a dish called spicy hands (it said spicy hands in English and Chinese) which was basically spicy wontons. It's in Cupertino Village so parking can be tough during peak lunch and dinner times (we went right at 11am when it opened which was perfect). The prices are so reasonable for all the dishes, definitely worth more than 3 stars!

I don't know why this restaurant doesn't get the 5 star review it deserves. This is the 2nd time I've dined in this restaurant and each one better than the next.

This is not your typical vanilla restaurant that serves Walnut Prawns or Sweet and Sour Pork. If this is your idea of authentic Shanghai Restaurant, then this isn't for you.

I've ordered 2 Eel dishes that deserve Michelin recommendation. I also ordered small fried fish that was crispy you can actually eat the entire fish. Tonight, We ordered the Fat Extracted Braised Pork Rump which was savory tender served in gravy on a bed of spinach. The sizzling eel was perfection in flavor. I loved the White egg with crab as well.

This is restaurant that serves authentic Shanghai Chinese food out of the box. Love this restaurant!!!!! The owners don't seem to be Yelp savvy because they haven't claimed this restaurant in Yelp. That doesn't mean that it' shouldn't be tried. This restaurant definitely deserves a 5 star review because the service is also excellent. Food is served in 10 minutes.

Probably one of the best Chinese restaurants around. Food is amazing. I literally come here 3 times a week.

The food is really good! Taste like authentic Chinese food. Will definitely go again.

This place has quality food. As a Los Angeles native, it goes without saying I would be spoiled to quality Chinese food. To my utter disappointment, I had not found quality Chinese food at a reasonable price until now. The Peking duck was phenomenal. The skin was crispy without the meat being dried. The vegetables were well done without a single blemish or hint at bad quality. Service was expedient which may come off as rushing. But overall, this has to be a wonderful place if you want good Chinese food in the San Jose area.

BEIJING DUCK. Awesome place. BEIJING DUCK. Servers were really nice, even though I didn't speak Chinese. They don't speak much but I could tell they were being nice. BEIJING DUCK. All of foods were delicious, I didn't have any problem. BEIJING DUCK. I went there once and this place is the #1 favorite Chinese restaurant in Bay Area. I think you guys know what to order when you go there.

Food there are delicious. We have tried the wonton soup and it was much delicious than any wonton soup I have had ever! The dumping and chicken are also good. The price is surprisingly low given its good quality of food. Maybe the environment of this restaurant is not that descent, but if you want tasty food, this is the place. Highly recommend.

I was here last weekend because we have a big group eating dinner together ~10ppl. So we decided to go here since we can make reservation and it has big table to fit all of us. Honestly I didn't put on high expectation because the reviews are pretty low. My gf used to live in Shanghai so she ordered whatever that she thought we are okay with. Most of the foods are pretty good. Love short ribs and chicken soup. Totally outta the world. Definitely come back for more yummy foods! Yum!!!

I don't know why this place has such low reviews but the food that we ordered was really good :-) And their service was friendly.

I am caucasian but I think I appreciate authentic quality Chinese food and have had several trips to China over the past few years and absolutely love the food there. This place amazed me by its quality and authenticity. So happy to find. Every dish so far has been excellent, especially the soup dumplings.

My 87 year old parents, born and raised in China (mom even lived in Shanghai years ago,) are obviously great judges of authenticity & quality of Chinese food, loved this place so much that Mom asked to return for her birthday dinner after eaten lunch there just 5 hours earlier! Both meals were fantastic.

We've eaten at many good Chinese restaurants in the Bay area, Hong Fu being the other one nearby), Shanghai Restaurant is now our new favorite. Good service and reasonable prices too.

Do check it out for yourself. Sorry the other reviewers had such negative experience.
