Reviews:
This restaurant far surpassed my expectations. The highlights of our meal were:
Gosh naan: flaky and extremely flavorful
Hand-pulled stir-fry beef noodle: the noodles were springy and also had great flavor
Lamb kabob: tender and not gamey at all
Chocolate cake and ice cream: received for free for checking in. Very moist and just the right amount of sweetness
Uyghur chicken korma: this dish was good and the portion size was decent but did not wow us as much as the other dishes
Also special shoutout to our server Ahmad. He was very attentive and had a great attitude. Would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Loved the food. The chicken korma was spicy but really tasty! And they come in huge portions even with the small order. We had dumplings, and other noodle dishes and each of them were very flavorful and delicious.
Only two servers were working but they were very friendly and they were great!
For the portions you get the price was pretty good!
My first time trying Uyghur food was at Mrs. Khan! I personally love the food here; my favorite items are their gosh naan and pumpkin manta. Looking back, I regret not ordering more to take home. This spot is a real hit, especially if you like spicy food.
They also do not skimp on portions - we ordered a "small" chicken korma and it was huge. Their rice cakes dish kinda reminds me of Shanghai rice cakes, or Korean tteokbokki. Their milk tea was very unique; unlike Chinese/Taiwanese milk teas, Uyghur milk tea is salty!
The restaurant is pretty big and could easily accommodate for larger groups. All the staff I encountered were friendly as well. ORDER THE GOSH NAAN!
This place was delicious and the perfect birthday dinner for my spicy food loving husband!!
The location is conveniently in downtown near lots of parking, and there's plenty of ethnic decor inside.
Pro tips:
Korma was a huge portion and the noodles were tasty and really good but small amount - get a double portion!
Cold noodles and kabob were also great
Favorite was the beef noodles- looks like lo mein but much more unique flavor. Not really spicy.
All their noodles including the skinny ones are perfectly chewy!
Honey cake was so good - definitely recommend!!!
Really unassuming exterior, but wow the food is amazing. I came here for lunch. I got the gosh naan and hand pulled noodles, both of which were outstanding and came out quickly. The gosh naan was crisp and the meat inside juicy and spicy. The noodles had a nice sparingly chew and char from the wok. The beef in the noodles were seasoned really well and had a unique flavor that was spicy, umami, salty, and savory. This was a great introduction to Uyghur cuisine for me. I would definitely come back here for the tasty food and kind service.
Perfectly seasoned food, not too spicy. Our kid loved the stir fry noodles with beef, and he's usually really picky. The laghman dish was my first time and the smell alone got me in the mood. The sauce/gravy I could probably drink with a straw in a sippy cup if they offered it (it's that good).
The service was great, the lady was helping us pick something not spicy for our kid.
The ambiance is basically like coming home and having a hearty meal. Everything is really pretty, from the walls of flowers to the really elegant tea pots.
First time trying Uyghur Cuisine after seeing this place highly recommended. Came in on a Friday evening around 6pm and were promptly seated. It looks very unassuming from the outside, but the interior was very nicely decorated and had a nice ambiance.
My partner and I weren't super hungry so we decided to split one appetizer and one entree between 2 of us. We got the gosh naan and the stir-fried noodles. The gosh Naan was quite unique and super flavorful. The crust was a very thin and crisp pastry shell while the interior was a moist meat mixture. I'd definitely recommend trying it!
We came here on a weekend in the early evening. The place got crowded as the evening went on, but there was only one other table there when we got there. The decor is very thoughtful and bright, and the tables are nice, with a mix of booths and tables.
As for the food, we ordered the beef noodles, chicken korma(?) and the naan with beef and veggies inside, which had the texture of a scallion pancake but with a filling inside.
This was our first time enjoying Uighur cuisine. The chicken dish was huge, even though we ordered the smaller version. It had the taste of a Chinese dish but had some spices that are familiar to me in Indian dishes. The noodles with beef were really fresh -- the noodles were super tender and had good seasoning on it. I think our favorite was the naan/pancake. It had the texture of a scallion pancake - light and crispy, but the filling was also good.
The service was also amazing, with our water being filled pretty often and was very attentive. My only issue about this place is that it's not very vegetarian friendly. They should have some more vegetarian options in order to reach more people. But the food they have is high quality and my partner loved this place.
Came here for the first time and didn't know what to expect. Will be honest and say that I've never had Uyghur cuisine before. But after coming here, I was honestly very impressed. The pumpkin dumplings were unique and delish. Loved the gosh naan - it almost tasted like a Chinese meat pie filling. The stir fry noodle was delicious and the kwap noodle was a cold noodle that was surprisingly refreshing in comparison to the stir fry. Love the yogurt drink! Would come back here again!
Last time when we tried Chicken Korma with the Yelp group, there was no hand pulled flat noodles at the bottom and it felt like something is missing. So we came over tonight to do it properly, we ordered a small one but it's still huge in size, which makes sense cuz I've known this dish as 大盘鸡 (big dish chicken literally). Got flat noodles at the bottom, what a complete meal. If the potatoes could be cut into irregular shapes, more starch will get into the broth, i think it might be less watery, just a thought. I was also surprised to find out they have gluten kabobs (烤面筋)now! I have to get it. One order is $5 comes with two huge gluten skewers. You can taste the hand made gluten, the seasoning was spot on but might need a tad more salt, I still enjoyed it very much!
Such a great first experience! Two things we wish we would have known.. 1. Dishes are family style 2. How spicy the medium spicy is but other than that service was great! Food came out quick! And restaurant was clean and very nice inside! Definitely returning!
TLDR; I HIGHLY recommend this place for family dinners, dates, quick eats, any occasion really. The food is great quality, amazingly flavorful, and exceeded all of my expectations! SO glad to have a new halal restaurant in the area!
I walked by Mrs Khan one day and immediately made plans to come here for dinner. They are a halal Uyghur Chinese restaurant, new to the area. I've never had this specific cuisine before but was completely blown away at how much I loved it!
We ordered the gosh naan, spicy rice cakes, and the stir fry beef noodles. Each entree so flavorful and different from the last. The noodles were my FAVORITE, I'm always on the hunt for thick noodles and this place fulfilled my craving!
The service was exceptional! Our host was attentive and very friendly. The restaurant itself is quite spacious, extending very far back with large tables for bigger parties. Overall, this place is a solid 5 stars and I will be back very often!
Alhamdulillah for this new and excellent addition to the Muslim food scene in the area. January 2nd will be one month since they opened. Though the menu is still being ironed out, the location (a former tableside-BBQ place) is well decorated, calming, and has incredible food.
This was my first time trying Uighur cuisine and I knew it was an amalgam of influences - Chinese, Central Asia, Ottoman, etc. The short menu is evidence of that - less than a dozen items in total - but covering a wide variety of flavors.
You must start the meal with a pot of the soothing, pink, fruit tea with its luscious pomegranate tones. My wife and I followed it with the vermicelli salad though I want to try the gosh paratha next time. We followed that up with the halal Stir-Fry Beef Noodles and the Spicy Rice Noodles - two different noodles for two different palettes. The latter used the Sichuan pepper that numbs the tongue but isn't fire-alarm hot. But tread cautiously!
Lunch concluded with a divine gelatin-free cheesecake and green tea ice cream. We are so glad to see this epicurean undertaking from these amazing sisters.
Food was 5/5.
The beef stir fry noodles are hand pulled. It was delicious and full of flavor. Definitely recommend this dish. The polov was great too.
The chicken korma portion was huge. It took us about 2 days to finish it.
The service was great. We were taken care of immediately. I'll definitely be coming back here with family and friends.
This Uyghur restaurant is a true haven for those seeking authentic flavors. The Gosh Nann, Laghman, and Grilled Lamb are a trio of delights that capture the essence of simplicity and authenticity. It's a culinary discovery that we will cherish, and we can't wait to return for another taste of true Uyghur cuisine.
update: Just recommended it to many friends and people nearby, we will come back soon.
The noodles are just 5/5. Home made fresh, hand pulled noodles. What more can you ask for?
The portions are big. The meat is fresh and tastes great.
We got the stir fry, the kids loved it.
Chicken korma which has hand pulled noodles 5 star.
Pumpkin dumplings are special.
Visited Mrs. Khan for dinner on Sunday and was seated right away. Although there was only one waiter, service was fast and pleasant. The restaurant's atmosphere was relaxing and the decor was tasteful. We got two orders of stir fry noodles and one order of the spicy rice cake, at a medium spice level.
Once you take the first bite of the stir fry dish, you can automatically tell that the noodles were hand-pulled and fresh-made. The texture was soft and chewy and served as the foundation for this dish. The rest of the stir fry plate included beef, fresh veggies, and authentic spices. However, the noodles definitely stole the show - a great example of simple done right.
The spicy rice cake was also excellent and made for a great family dish to share. My only critique for this dish was that it was a little too oily and that the medium spicy was spicier than expected (would recommend going down to mild for those who only dabble in spicy food).
Portion sizes were fair, but I would rate the price point on the higher end. However, I enjoyed my visit and can see myself returning in the future to experience more Uyghur cuisine (this was my first time!).
Just a what I was looking for a perfect date night dinner with my husband beautiful ambience, spot on flavors and great customer service. They made our night more enjoyable.
+1 star for just right amount of options on the menu .. you earned a lifetime customer.
Amazing food and excellent service. I felt like I was being served by family. The lamb was soft and flavorful, and the dumplings were so tasty! Definitely will be coming back!
Surprised to see an Uyghur restaurant in Menlo Park. Went there with a girl friend because she recommended. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and the flavors of the food they have offered at this place. I even got to meet the owner who turned out to be a beautiful and young lady. I highly recommend this place and will absolutely go back again. The only thing I ask for is for them to offer more variety items on the menu.
Authentic Uyghur cuisine. Rarely comment on restaurant's decorations, but the ambiance is pretty decent and really brings me back to northwestern China. If you are down for trying new cuisine, this is a must-go because I don't see many good Uyghur restaurants around the Bay Area.
However, since it's a relatively new and family-run restaurant, there are times when the waiter/waitress are just simply not as professional and caring. I don't have high bars for service, and I think it's sufficient to have a cozy dinner at this place.
Great food and service. This was my first time trying Uyghur cuisine and I am definitely coming back again.
Great ambiance too, perfect for families and gatherings.
Food was clean, delicious and the right portions.
Highly recommend.
The aroma inside is filled with the right spices and sets high expectations. Their menu is relatively small but carefully selected to sell Uyghur specialties.
We decided to try the small portion of their Uyghur chicken korma, which might be more recognizable to some as 大盘鸡, dàpánjī or big plate chicken. The dish is a shared plate that features a mildly spicey Xinjiang stew containing chicken simmered with bell peppers, potatoes, onions, laghman noodles and various dried spices. The overall flavor was what we were hoping for and is likely one of the better dàpánjī I've tried in the Bay area.
Additionally, a considerable amount of effort went into incorporating Uyghur culture into their interior, which was refreshing to see. The only improvement I could see was that the service appeared to be stretched too thin during the busy hour.
Never had this cuisine before. Food was so tasty! Must try!!! Lots of large portions, and spicy food.
Ordered takeout and was pleasantly surprised.
We ordered the Uyghur salad, Gosh Naan and the Stir Fry Beef Noodles. I never had Uyghur cuisine before so did not have any expectations. But the Gosh Naan was very tasty, though slightly oily, and the salad paired really well with the naan and the noodles. The fresh and tangy salad cut through the oil of the naan and noodles rather nicely. The Stir Fry Beef Noodles were delicious and vaguely reminiscent of Mongolian Beef stir fry.
In any case, I'm looking forward to trying the dishes at the restaurant one of these days.
Had lamb skewer and hand-pulled noodles. Very authentic! Best Uyghur food I've had in the US.
The restaurant is a nice comfortable place to eat noodles dishes, authentic from Uyghur. Both the Laghman and the stir-fry beef noodles were great. The noodles taste fresh, homemade. Laghman has long hand-pulled noodles and more vegetables than the beef noodles. The beef noodle dish could use more chives and vegetables.
The owner and server are very nice and friendly. Excellent service.
Great ambience, phenomenal food and very courteous hosts and staff. We got Chicken korma, lamb skewers and spicy rice noodles. All were great and different. The lamb skewers were the tenderest piece of lamb I've ever had. The spice in the spicy rice noodles really hit the spot. The chicken korma had a good balance of flavors.
